Our story

Thirty years of doing IT the right way.

WEBIT started in 1996 with a simple idea: small and midsize businesses deserve the same quality of IT that big companies get, delivered by people who actually care about the outcome.

In 2022 we took that idea further and became employee-owned. Today every person you work with at WEBIT is an owner, with open financials, visible scorecards, and a real stake in your success. We run on EOS, measure ourselves every week, and share praise from clients with the whole team every morning.

What we believe

Three values. Every day.

These are not posters on a wall. They describe how we hire, how we work, and how we treat every client.

Have a hungry heart

We look for better ways to serve. Every client relationship, support interaction, and technology decision is a chance to improve on what we did before.

Bring a positive mindset

Every challenge has a solution. We approach problems with patience, optimism, and the steadiness that comes from 30 years of experience.

Move forward together

We win as a team: clear communication, real support for one another, and client relationships built as long-term partnerships.

The people behind the work

Every leader at WEBIT is an employee-owner, personally accountable for the work we deliver.

Andrew is our senior vCIO who helps Chicagoland businesses make smarter technology decisions. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, he started his career at Webit, on the help desk, and worked his way up. Working hard through that taught him how technology really affects the people who use it every day. This perspective shapes his approach: find the real gap between where a business is and where it wants to be, then build a practical plan to close it, explained in plain English. Family always comes first. After that, he's a lifelong Cubs fan and a diehard Bears fan. Additional Andrew is a longtime Nintendo fan, and a proud tech nerd who's usually reading about the latest tech-trends or how people actually adopt new technology.

Our founder

How WEBIT started

WEBIT started in 1996 as a side business run out of a spare room, selling t-shirts and sports apparel. Eric took over the ordering after noticing that every sale was losing money. The company's first name was a nod to the iceberg everyone assumed was coming.

His technology career started when he answered a newspaper ad for a developer without ever having written a line of code. He asked to be taught on day one and was writing working code by Friday. Then he bought a book on Windows NT, fixed the server that kept crashing, and became the network administrator.

The turning point came in 2005. After a run of 90-hour weeks, his boss tossed him the keys to a brand-new luxury car and told him to get it washed. That was the moment his belief in employee ownership was born. That weekend his father asked a simple question: you have a credit card, so why not go all in on your own business?

He did, full time. The first employee joined six months later with no plan for how two people would get paid. The first office was a single rack of gear in a friend's building in Batavia, and the first real recurring revenue came from the company he had just left. By 2009 the name had changed for good to WEBIT Services.

In 2016 Eric opened the books to every employee, a decision he calls the one that forever changed the culture. In 2022 he made WEBIT employee-owned, an idea he had carried since the morning of that car wash, seventeen years earlier. Today Eric spends his time educating people on the benefits of employee ownership, writing his first book, collecting comic books, and spending time in Michigan.

"You can always find a way to replace bad revenue. It's incredibly difficult to replace good people."Eric Rieger, Founder
